Defense Verdict in Medical Malpractice Trial
Evan Black obtained a defense verdict for a physician and practice group in a leg amputation case.
The demand was $2 million. The Plaintiff sustained a severe injury to his leg at work. Plaintiff alleged that the doctor failed to properly indentify and treat compartment syndrome and infection in the leg, ultimately causing the patient to undergo above knee amputation.
The Defendant was able to show that the Plaintiff did not develop compartment syndrome and that the nature of the infection, caused by a rare bacteria, which frequently results in death or amputation, made the amputation unavoidable, even though properly addressed by the Defendant.
