Shawn C. Gooden joins the workers’ compensation group at Thomas, Thomas & Hafer’s Harrisburg office with nearly 20 years of experience handling all aspects of workers’ compensation related litigation. He has litigated thousands of workers’ compensation cases and has developed a subspecialty in handling medical fee review cases on behalf of insurance carriers and employers and regularly appears before fee review hearing officers and the Commonwealth Court on issues of medical reimbursement.
Shawn was also recently appointed to the Board of Workers’ Compensation Council for the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Additionally, he is certified as a specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Section on Workers’ Compensation Law as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He has extensive appellate experience before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Shawn is an adjunct professor of law at Widener University Commonwealth Law School. He is a regular presenter and lecturer on a wide variety of topics, including multiple presentations at the annual Department of Labor and Industry Workers’ Compensation Conference, the Section Meeting of the Workers Compensation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Self-Insured’s Association.
In 2002, Shawn was the recipient of the Irvin Stander Award. This award is given by the workers’ compensation section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in memory of Irvin Stander, a Philadelphia Workers’ Compensation Judge who was known for his prolific writing on workers’ compensation and zoning law. The award recognizes an outstanding graduating law student who has demonstrated scholarship in the areas of administrative or workers’ compensation law.
