TTH Attorney Hugh P. O’Neill, III Inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers

Thomas, Thomas & Hafer (“TTH”) is proud to announce that Hugh P. O’Neill, III was recently made a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.  Hugh was honored at an induction ceremony, before an audience of approximately 950 people, during the Annual Meeting of the College, which took place in Washington, D.C.

Founded in 1950, the American College of Trial Lawyers is widely recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America.  It strives to preserve and enhance trial practice, civility, professionalism and the administration of justice, through support of an independent judiciary, the rule of law, trial by jury and access to justice.  The College is comprised of the best of the trial bar from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.  Fellowship is extended by invitation only and follows a rigorous investigation process.  Only experienced trial lawyers who have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality, will receive invitations.  Candidates must also have at least fifteen years of trial experience before consideration for fellowship.

Hugh is a partner with TTH and has been practicing in Central Pennsylvania for 25 years.  Hugh is an alumnus of Widener University Delaware Law School, having earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1993.  While in law school, he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and a member of the 1993 National Tax Moot Court team.  Hugh also earned the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence.  Hugh is originally a native of Philadelphia, and graduated from Saint Joseph’s Prepatory School in 1986.  He subsequently graduated from the University of Scranton in 1990, with a bachelor of arts in history.

After practicing for about 10 years in Philadelphia, Hugh joined TTH in 2001.  In his two decades of practice at TT&H, Hugh has defended nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitality entities, residential juvenile justice facilities, prisons, and many other individuals and companies in a wide variety of matters, including medical professional liability and licensing, nursing and nursing home administrator licensing matters, premises liability, and sex trafficking litigation.  Hugh is admitted to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the Federal District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.

Over his years of practice, Hugh has presented to many organizations regarding risk management issues, nursing best practices, medical tort reform issues, sex trafficking litigation, and coverage matters.  Hugh has written regarding the implementation of electronic medical records and related risk management issues.  He has advised clients and insurers regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical practice.  Hugh serves as a 1L Mentor for the Widener University Delaware School.  In his personal time, Hugh has served for several years as a NCAA and USA Swimming referee at numerous meets in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
